Questions & Answers
Here are quick answers to the things families ask most often before starting at Coda Piano School.
Many children are ready around age 5 or 6, but readiness depends on attention span, interest, and comfort following simple instructions. We can help you decide what makes sense for your child.
Yes. Beginners are welcome, including children, teens, and adults. Lessons start with rhythm, note reading, hand position, listening, and simple songs that build confidence early.
Most students take weekly 30-minute lessons. A 60-minute lesson may be better for advancing students, serious learners, or students preparing for recitals, auditions, or more challenging repertoire.
A digital keyboard is fine as long as it has weighted keys. As students progress, we encourage families to eventually move toward a traditional piano or a higher-quality digital piano so the student can develop better touch, tone, and technique.
Students make the best progress when they can practice between lessons. An acoustic piano or a weighted-key digital piano is ideal, but we can talk through good starter options.
Recitals are encouraged because they help students build confidence and celebrate progress. We keep the atmosphere supportive and positive so performing feels like a milestone, not pressure.
Yes, parent involvement is completely welcome. In fact, we encourage parents to stay connected with the lesson process so they can help make sure students practice correctly and complete their homework at home.
No. All private piano lessons and group classes are taught at our Virginia Beach studio.
